The Role

The role of the Software Engineering Team is to create, maintain and deliver software to some of the most well-known global insurance companies and the many hundreds of internal consultant users in the Insurance Consulting and Technology business. As a Software Engineering graduate, the role is intentionally varied and will involve you discussing functionality with consultants, proposing solutions and generating prototypes, understanding and coding algorithms ensuring that time and memory constraints are satisfied, iterating user interfaces and researching new technologies and tools.

You will be involved in all aspects of a professional software development life cycle using the latest tools and techniques to deliver complex software of the highest quality. You will learn about professional software development and experience all aspects of today’s industry best practices. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Understanding what our clients need, and solving those problems

  • Developing high-performance, scalable software using various technologies on multiple platforms

  • Creating an engaging user experience through clean and crisp user interfaces

  • Delivering quality using the latest test and automation techniques

  • Deployment to complex IT infrastructures, including cloud environments

This is all done within small agile teams that collaboratively contribute to the effective delivery of high quality software products. As part of our induction program, you will also be introduced to different colleagues and will learn more about the types of software products we create, the way we operate and different roles that we have in our software teams.

Career Path & Qualification

As a Software Engineering graduate, you will follow a comprehensive onboarding experience which will include working in different software engineering disciplines, e.g. Developer, QA, DevOps. To help you progress your career with WTW, you will also follow a program of certifications and training.

The Requirements

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in a Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar technical or analytic discipline, with a reasonable understanding of Mathematics is required

It would also be an advantage to possess the following skills:

  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle and Agile principles

  • Knowledge and experience of using an object-oriented language (such as C#, C++, Java or Python) and/or web technologies (such as HTML/CSS, JavaScript and Angular)

  • Familiarity with unit testing and test automation in general

  • Appreciation of current and emerging technologies

  • Appreciation of algorithm and software performance

Stage 4: Virtual Assessment centre – this is an opportunity for you to meet with members of the team and for the team to understand your strengths, preferences and motivations. The assessment will take place virtually, and there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions.

Stage 5: Offer and on-boarding

Start date for the UK Graduate Programme will be the beginning of September 2023.
